glutathione S transferase
- glutathione S transferase
-
Enzyme that will couple
glutathione to
a xenobiotic as the first step in removal. Now very commonly used as
a fusion with
a gene of interest that is being expressed in
a bacterial system. The fusion construct can be purified easily from lysate by
passage down
a glutathione affinity column, the purified construct then being eluted with glutathione. The
GST can then be cleaved proteolytically from the
protein of interest though often the complete
fusion protein can be used.
